Join us to visit the sacred oasis, traverse the sand dunes of Erg Chegaga and Erg Eghoul, and relish the highlight of spending a night in the desert camp, Bivouac les Nomades. This traditional camp is crafted by the nomads of Lake Iriki.

HIGHLIGHTS:

M'hamid Desert Trekking commences with your pickup from your accommodation and an exploration of the Elmezouria dunes. The trek then proceeds across flat but rocky terrain (hammada) to reach Oasis Oum Laalak. Continuing on, we head towards the dunes of Erg Chegaga. Our Saharan journey takes us to Erg Elghoul. Following the dunes, we change course towards the dry lake known as Iriki Lake, where we'll reach the camp "Bivouac les Nomades," savoring unforgettable moments in this splendid camp. The adventure concludes as we return to Foum Zguid at the end of this Chagaga dunes experience.

Six-Day Desert Trekking from M'hamid el Ghizlane Itinerary:

DAY 1: M'HAMID EL GHIZLANE TO ELMEZOUARIA DUNES

We will pick you up in the early morning from your hotel or camping site. At the entrance of M´Hamid, the camel team will be waiting for us to start our desert trekking trip. After a brief introduction to the team, we will explain the most important things you need to know about the desert and this trek: how to wear your chech (turban) in a traditional way, how to treat the camels, or how to choose the best place to sleep at night. Then we will embark on our trekking tour from M´Hamid to reach the dunes of Elmezouria, where we will spend the first night in tents.

DAY 2: FROM THE DUNES OF ELMEZOUARIA TO HOLY OASIS OF OUMLAALAG

After a fantastic night in the middle of the dunes, we will start our second day with a traditional nomad breakfast. The first few kilometers will be flat, sandy, and easy to walk. The rest of the day, we have to traverse flat yet rocky ground (hammada). After 4 hours of trekking, we will finally reach the holy oasis of Oumlaalag, where we will spend our second night.

DAY 3: FROM THE HOLY OASIS OF OUMLAALAG TO ERG CHEGAGA

Before reaching the big sand dunes, we have to cross rocky, flat, and sandy ground again. The big dunes of Erg Chegaga will already be visible from afar. Once we arrive at Erg Chegaga, we will enjoy the marvelous sunset from the biggest dune in Morocco. To climb the top of this dune, it will take about 30 minutes. Again, we will spend the night in our own tents.

DAY 4: FROM ERG CHEGAGA TO ERG ELGHOUL

We will spend the whole day crossing the dunes from Erg Chegaga to Erg Elghoul. This will be the most challenging day of the desert trekking trip. We need to traverse up and down from one dune to another, making it genuinely challenging. Yet, we will have an amazing panoramic view following the waves of the dunes and enjoying the melody of the wind.

DAY 5: FROM ERG ELGHOUL TO BIVOUAC LES NOMADES

This is the last trekking day in the dunes. After six kilometers, we will leave the sand dunes and reach the dry lake called Lake Iriki, which is entirely flat ground. The dunes will still accompany us on our left side, while Jebel Bani will be on our right side. Lake Iriki was one of the largest lakes in Morocco and Africa. After crossing the salty dry Lake Iriki, we will reach Bivouac les Nomades in the middle of the dunes of Lake Iriki. Bivouac les Nomades is a traditional desert camp with showers, toilets, a kitchen, restaurants, and tents for sleeping. We will celebrate your last night in the Sahara desert of Morocco to the rhythm of nomadic music around the campfire.

DAY 6: BIVOUAC LES NOMADES BACK TO FOUM ZGUID OR TO M´HAMID EL GHIZLANE

You can start your last day in the Sahara by enjoying the sunrise from the big dunes near the desert camp. After the final breakfast in the desert, we will bid farewell to the camel team. Whether you want to return to M´Hamid, where we started our desert trekking, or continue to Foum Zguid, our driver and guide will already be waiting for you to pick you up at the place of your choice.
