Itinerary for the Rock Engravings Desert Tour from Foum Zguid:

Day 1: Begin From Foum Zguid To Explore The Rock Engravings

In the vast expanse of the Foum Zguid Sahara, signs of prehistoric life cling to the slightest ledges, offering glimpses into a bygone era.

Foum Zguid serves as the gateway to the Sahara of Lake Iriki and the Chegaga Sahara desert. The desert surrounding Lake Iriki is home to numerous rock engraving sites that provide valuable insights into the nomadic way of life, offering rich information about previous generations and the nomadic lifestyle of the past.

Our journey begins at 9:00 from Foum Zguid, heading southward. We traverse the Elmadouar Mountains (known as the Tagine Mountain) to reach the old Rallye Dakar track. Turning left on this track toward Tirikit, we reach Lmagsam, where we take a 30-minute break to explore the Sahara rock engravings.

This prehistoric heritage offers a fascinating glimpse into the life of Sahara nomads in the pre-literary era.

Continuing along the Rallye Dakar track, we reach the fossil-rich area for our second stop. After crossing the dry lake of Iriki, we arrive at Bivouac les Nomades—an authentic camp nestled in the dunes of Lake Iriki Sahara desert.

For the night, you will stay in this desert camp near the largest dune of Lake Iriki, known as Erg Elmhazil. Each guest will have a private tent equipped with a toilet, shower, and restaurant access. Before sunset, enjoy a camel ride to the top of the big dune to witness the breathtaking sunset.

Experience traditional food and nomadic music around the campfire in the evening.

The next morning, after breakfast, we return to Foum Zguid.
