Intermediate Level: Seven Days Of Trekking In The Desert From Zagora

• After breakfast in the Diabi oasis, we start our second day through the Oued Elmhasser mountains to the Elmsaffi guelta. A guelta is a natural pool in the desert mountains. You can swim in the guelta or simply enjoy this special place. In the evening, we can explore the old Portuguese colonial building on top of one of the large flat mountains.

• The mountains around La Guelta are well worth spending a whole day exploring. You can find ruins, enjoy the panoramic view from the top of the mountains, especially at sunset. For the evening fire, we have to collect wood. In the evening, we'll sit around the fire and play music together. We'll still be singing the songs our grandfathers used to sing.

• After breakfast at the guelta, we set off from the guelta through the rocky Oued Elmhasser. This river is mostly dry. You can only find a little water at the Elmsaffi guelta and once you're close to the summit of Jebel Bani. Perhaps we'll meet some nomads along the way, as this is the ideal place to find water for goats and camels. After a 3.5-hour hike, we'll reach the edge of the Jebel Bani mountains. Here we prepare our camp for the following night.

• Our next stage of this desert trek will be from the edge of Jebel Bani to Erg Elghoul.

  Today's terrain will be 10 km of hamada (stony desert) with rocks, but there will be a small path used by the camel caravan, and the rest of the way will be sandy. In all, you'll have to walk 18 km today. It's a special day, as you leave the mountains and arrive in the sandy dunes of the Moroccan Sahara. In the evening, we'll enjoy the sunset from the great dunes of Erg Elghoul. For the night, you can choose to sleep in your tent or under the millions of desert stars outside, which you can admire as you watch the countless shooting stars.

• On this day, we'll be hiking from Erg Elghoul to the other side of Lake Iriki.

  Today is the last day of the trek, and it's going to be a bit tricky as we cross the dunes on the Chegaga side to reach the side of Lake Iriki. This is how we'll reach the Bivouac les

  Nomades, where we'll spend the night amidst the dunes of Lake Iriki: you'll sleep in one of our beautiful tents with a comfortable bed. The desert camp has a kitchen, restaurants, toilets and a shower. Here, we'll celebrate our last night in the desert together with nomad music.

After a wonderful night at camp, we'll take the 4x4 car back to Foum Zguid or Zagora, depending on your choice. Don't miss the opportunity to wake up early to see the sunrise over one of the dunes - the colors are incredibly beautiful.
