Embark on an unforgettable 4-day desert safari and camel trekking adventure from the stunning Foum Zguid desert. This unique journey is designed for those who want a blend of comfort and authentic exploration. It combines the thrill of a 4×4 safari and a base camp experience with a multi-day camel trek into the heart of the Sahara, where you will spend a night under the stars in a remote wild camp.
Day 1: Foum Zguid → Erg Elmhazil Desert Camp
Your journey begins with a meet-up in the afternoon in Foum Zguid. After leaving your car in a secure park, you will begin your desert safari in a 4×4, taking the old Paris-Dakar Rally road. We will visit the Tajine Mountains and a fascinating fossil site before crossing the dry Lake Iriki. You will then arrive at your desert camp in the serene dunes of Erg Elmhazil. After a welcoming Berber tea, you’ll have a camel ride to see the sunset from the top of the big dunes. In the evening, you will enjoy a traditional Bedouin dinner and music around a campfire.
Day 2: Desert Safari & Nomadic Discovery
After breakfast at the camp, you will embark on a full-day desert safari. This day is dedicated to deep exploration of the surrounding areas. You will visit the small village and oasis of Sidi Abd Enbi and see the old Kasbah, a glimpse into the region’s ancient history. We’ll then continue to a nomadic school and have lunch with a local family, giving you a chance to see how nomads live in the Sahara. You will also see animals that have adapted to survive in this arid landscape. In the evening, you will return to the camp at Erg Elmhazil for dinner and another night of stargazing.
Day 3: Camel Trekking to Erg Elghoul
In the early morning, you will meet your camel team and begin the next phase of your adventure: a deep desert camel trek. We will cross the sand dunes to reach one of the main and most remote dunes called Erg Elghoul, also known as “The Ghosts’ Dune.” This full-day trek will allow you to experience the true authenticity and silence of the Sahara. As night falls, we will prepare a wild camp in the middle of the dunes. You will have the unique experience of preparing bread in the sand, and after a delicious dinner, you can enjoy music and storytelling around the fire.
Day 4: Departure from Erg Elghoul to Foum Zguid
After a final breakfast at your wild camp, you will meet your driver who will have traveled to your location. You will then begin the journey back to Foum Zguid, reflecting on your extraordinary desert safari and camel trekking experience. You will depart with cherished memories of the silent landscapes and the rugged beauty of the Sahara.
