Day 1: Marrakech → Atlas mountains → Erg Chigaga → Lake Iriki:
Departure from Marrakech at your hotel, riad, or hostel towards the Atlas Mountains. We cross the Tizi n’Tichka Pass and enjoy the view of the small Berber villages of the Atlas Mountains. We’ll stop for lunch in Taznakht, a small town between Ouarzazate and Foum Zguid, famous for its Moroccan carpet production. We continue south to reach Foum Zguid – the gateway to the Sahara. From there, we take the old Paris-Dakar Rallye piste toward Erg Chigaga. Along the way, we will visit the Tajine Mountains, the Oasis of Elagermia, the historic fossil sites, and cross the dry Lake Iriki to reach the Erg Chigaga dunes. We will spend the night at the traditional Berber desert camp (Bivouac Les Nomades), featuring traditional food and music around the fire.
Day 2: Bivouac Les Nomades → Erg Elghoul
After breakfast, we meet our camel trekking team and begin our crossing of the dunes to reach Erg Elghoul, one of the biggest sand dunes in the area. You will enjoy the profound silence and tranquillity deep in the Sahara. We will dine on traditional nomadic cuisine, and in the evening, you will learn the Berber way of baking bread in the sand around the campfire.
Day 3: Erg Elghoul → The natural swimming pool in the mountains of Jabel Bani
Today, after breakfast, we head north, leaving the main sand dunes completely to reach the Jabel Bani Mountains via the old road of the commercial African caravans that once crossed Jabel Bani to Zagora. We will enjoy the day near a natural swimming pool in the mountains, where you will have the opportunity to swim.
Day 4: The natural swimming pool – Zawiat Sidi Abd Enbi
After breakfast in the mountains, we will continue our way to the small Berber nomad village called Zawiat Sidi Abd Enbi. Here, you will discover the history of the old Ksar of Zawiat and the oasis of the nomads, learning how the nomads live in the Sahara.
Day 5: Zawiat Sidi abd enbi → M’hamid Elghizlane → Zagora → Agdez
After breakfast in the Berber village of Sidi Abd Enbi, we will say goodbye to our camel team and meet our driver to continue to M’hamid El Ghizlane. On the way, we will visit the holy oasis and continue through the road to reach Tamegroute, one of the most historic villages in the south. Here, we will visit the Coranic school, the famous ceramic production, and the old Jewish Kasbah. We then cross Zagora before arriving in Agdez village, where we will spend the night in a small kasbah in the Oasis of Agdez.
